SECURITY BRIAN COMPLETES COAST-TO-COAST
Chelseafc.com is pleased to report that Brian Horrigan, the man in charge of player security at the club, beat the elements and terrain on his gruelling charity walk.
Last week we brought you news that Brian was attempting a coast-to-coast trek across England's highlands to raise money for Help for Heroes, which supports wounded servicemen and women from current conflicts.
After six days solo walking through the Lake District and across the Pennines, with three nights spent sleeping out, the ex-servicemen who travels everywhere with the team during the season, reached the North Yorkshire Coast at Robin Hood's Bay.
'Hard work but enjoyable,' was Brian's assessment of his walk. There was one day of high wind and heavy rain midway through, during which he shared a largely inaudible phone conversation with Chelseafc.com!
'The weather was mostly okay,' he continues. 'The hardest part was on the Pennines because you are going up and down but on the moors, you can make up some good mileage. I did about 38 miles over 14 hours on the first day and then less towards the end. If I did it again, I'd do the shorter legs at the beginning and the longer legs on the moors; you could make up some time.
'The wildlife you see out there is stunning and I even met someone who was running the whole route!'
Brian's next challenge is to collect the sponsorship money he has been promised on completion by the players. He is not anticipating that to be anything like as tough as the walk.
