WHY NOT GET INVOLVED IN THE WEEKS OF ACTION?
Kick It Out officially launched its 2009 One Game One Community weeks of action this week. This year's campaign will take place from 15-27 October, coinciding with Black History Month.
Chelsea's game against Blackburn Rovers on 24 October will be the coming season's official KIO game but our work tackling prejudice and discrimination will continue throughout the year.
As well as all 92 professional clubs in England and Wales taking part, the weeks have a strong community focus and play a role in celebrating diversity and inclusion across all other areas of the game.
Grassroots clubs, schools, community groups and fans join the professional game in coming together in symbolic activities and initiatives, which resulted in over 1000 events taking place last year.
Last season Chelsea were awarded with the intermediate level of the Racial Equality Standard for our work tackling discrimination within the game and over 2,000 young people in south-west London were part of the club's anti discrimination education campaign, headed up by Chelsea's first black player, Paul Canoville.
Nicolas Anelka, our anti discrimination ambassador, welcomed the club's campaign and the fight against racism within football: 'You can see on the pitch we are all friends in one team, from different regions and different colours but we are still winning games.
'There is no place for prejudiced thoughts, no place for fighting, so if you can work well together in the football pitch you can do it in your life. If we can achieve it in England then we should be able to achieve it everywhere in the world.'
Chelsea also launched the Search for an Asian Star campaign to address the under representation of Asian players within the professional and grass roots game. This summer the club will also be embarking on a tour of Asian community groups to provide free coaching sessions to try to break down many of the barriers that prevent young Asians playing football.
There are many ways that you could get involved in this year's weeks of action; you could host an event, run a competition or arrange a football tournament. Kick It Out may also be able to help with part funding your event through the One Game One Community Development Grants.
Kick It Out offers a wide range of resources to support activities taking place, including t-shirts, sweatbands, key rings and badges as well as flags and banners which will help to link your event with football's most established equality and inclusion campaign.
